Best of Slovakia Stage 4 Liptovský Mikuláš - Poprad
The longest stage of your journey, but without long crazy ascents. This scenic route will take you between High Tatras and Low Tatras from Liptov to the Spiš region.
From Liptovský Mikuláš, cycle along the river for a while, but soon turn right to cross the river through a pedestrian bridge. From Závažná Poruba, bike through a field to Liptovský Ján.
Liptovský Ján is a village with a relatively big number of 19th century mansions and a popular open-air thermal spring directly on your route, where you can relax a bit.
Continue on an unpaved forest path and near Váh river to Liptovský Hrádok. Behind Liptovská Porúbka, bike on scenic paved path with views, join the main road for a few hundred metres and turn to Kráľova Lehota. Road with minor traffic takes you along Čierny Váh dam to the start of a scenic cycling path Benkovo on a former narrow gauge railway.
Soon, you reach Šuňava village, with a local pub and pizzeria to refresh. The highest point of today’s stage comes early after. From here, it is just descending down the Lopušná valley to an industrial town Svit. Continue a designated paved cycling path to Poprad. Cross the city centre to its charming medieval neighbourhood Spišská Sobota.
